Getting Started--again

 Recently I lost my previous blog after many years of posting not only the studio doings but also my feelings and frustrations associated with having a creative space and expecting myself to produce art.  As I age, (and I'm aging fast,) I find having to produce can become a burden. I would much prefer to just play and see what happens.  This will be my plan moving forward.

For today, I have gained a new place to record my playing, musing and navel gazing.  Maybe even to record creating something.  Who knows?

A change in direction.

Since my last post, my husband and I have made the decision to apply for an apartment in an Assistive Living Facility.  This means moving from a three bedroom, with basement, house to a small 1-2 bedroom apartment with a meal program.  My studio takes up 3/4 of our finished basement.  My kitchen had 9 cupboards, along with 6 drawers, all full of junk.  But the main problem will be the studio. Up Date

Not much time in the studio over the past couple of months.  I guess there comes  a time in life when domestic and medical issues become greater concerns. I did take a workshop on making a kaleidoscope quilt.  In my EPP I'm wanting to dive into very complex quilts such those designed and made by Willyne Hammerstein, the most popular one being "La Passacaglia".  This quilt is often discussed on the internet and Pintrest. One suggestion to those considering making this piece is to take a class in "Stack'n'Whack or Kaleidoscope quilts first.  So I did and I'm very glad I did.  I thinking I'll be trying something a little less demanding before tackling "LaPassacaglia. Meanwhile, I'm working on finishing the piece I started in the Kaleidoscope class.  Spent a couple of hours yesterday figuring out where I went wrong on this piece.  But at last the light bulb went on, and that problem got corrected, but I also came to recognize that I hadn't ma...

Productive week

  This week I've felt better than I have for some time.  I have more energy, and what better use for it than studio work. Both of the "Chandelier" quilts have been sandwiched, ready for machine quilting, as has a smaller pieced charity quilt that has no name. As well, I've been busy with my EPP.  "TulaNova" is now on the last row around the outside.  Rather than putting each piece on as the parts are put together, I plan to make all 20 individual sections before stitching any of them on.  I'm also searching out the next project for my EPP.   Then, after competing the above, I realized that my scrap drawer is full again.  A couple of days of piecing using the "twosie/foursie" method of piecing.  What a nice way to spend a lazy day, in the basement dodging the heat.  Needless to say, my work table and sewing machine are a complete mess.
